On Wednesday, Congress workers in many states across the country got angry and took to the streets to protest against the strict police action and the detention of many senior leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during a vigorous demonstration in Delhi on July 20. The Congress Party has strongly demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding the NEET paper leak issue. Congress took to the streets across the country, anger erupted

There were reports of protests from different corners of the country against the detention of Rahul Gandhi and the action taken against the protesters. In Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, Congress workers took to the streets and demonstrated violently. At the same time, in Palakkad, Kerala, Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers took out a vigorous march against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and demanded his immediate resignation.

Congress Legal Cell opened an open front against the Central Government in Bengaluru, Karnataka, where many Congress workers protesting on the issue of NEET paper leak were taken into custody by the police. Even in Surat, Gujarat, Congressmen protested violently against the detention of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi and raised the issue of paper leak. Apart from this, Congress announced ‘Chalo Lok Bhawan’ march in Hyderabad, Telangana, where heavy police force had to be deployed to stop the workers who were gathered to condemn the arrest of Rahul Gandhi.

BJP’s counter-demonstration and clashes at many places

On the other hand, in response to the demonstration conducted by the Congress Party near the Prime Minister’s residence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also organized counter-protests in many states of the country. In Hyderabad, state BJP president Ramachandra Rao and other leaders were detained by police while they were marching from the party headquarters towards the Congress office.

At the same time, BJP workers demonstrated strongly outside the Congress office in Jammu, where workers from both the parties came face to face and started shouting slogans. The police had to immediately intervene and stop the two groups from clashing with each other. Apart from this, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, BJP workers tried to gherao the Congress office by raising slogans of “Rahul Gandhi down down”, which led to a heated clash and even scuffle between Congress and BJP leaders.

Opposition’s unique demonstration in ‘black clothes’ in Parliament complex

Amidst this nationwide political uproar, opposition MPs registered their unique protest by wearing black clothes inside the Parliament complex. Rahul Gandhi himself, Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and many other senior opposition leaders were present in full force in this demonstration.

It is noteworthy that all this nationwide uproar started after the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march taken out in Delhi on July 20. The opposition has a serious allegation that the police brutally lathicharged the workers who were protesting peacefully and released tear gas shells. Opposition leaders have strongly condemned this police action and said that detaining Rahul Gandhi and other big leaders is a deliberate attempt to suppress the voice of democratic opposition in the country.
