FIFA World Cup 2026: World champion Spain gets historic welcome in Madrid, millions of fans give grand welcome to the champions
Madrid: The Spain national football team returned home on Monday after winning the FIFA World Cup 2026 title, where they were given a historic welcome in the capital Madrid. Millions of football fans took to the streets of the city to welcome the entire team a day after their 1-0 win over Argentina in the final.
All 26 players and coaching staff of Spain first met the country’s royal family. After this he met Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Congratulating the players on their excellent performance and winning the World Cup, the Prime Minister said that the entire country enjoyed their game a lot.
Victory parade took place in an open bus, players danced with the trophy
After the formal meetings, the entire Spanish team boarded an open-top bus and set out for the victory parade through the streets of Madrid. The message “The stars shine together” was written in Spanish on the bus and photos of the players were also displayed.
The players, holding the World Cup trophy in their hands, kept greeting fans all the way. The team wore special T-shirts reading “Somos Campeones” (We are champions). The players danced and sang during the parade and shared the victory celebration with thousands of supporters.
Coach de la Fuente said – it is a matter of pride to represent the country
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente said it was an extremely emotional and proud moment for him to represent a country with such passionate and dedicated fans. He gave credit for this historic victory to the entire team and supporters.
Grand ceremony held at Sibels Square
The victory parade started from near the Moncloa Palace, the official residence of the Prime Minister, and passed through the main streets of Madrid to Cibeles Square, where a special ceremony was held in honor of the players.
All the players were introduced on the stage one by one and each player entered the stage with their favorite song. Alex Baena, who was celebrating his 25th birthday, reached the stage carrying the World Cup trophy.
During the ceremony, the players celebrated the victory by throwing their coach Luis de la Fuente in the air. Striker Borja Iglesias played the role of DJ for some time, which made the atmosphere even more exciting.
Celebration with music, dance and fireworks
Famous Spanish singers Aitana, Ana Mena and Lola Indigo performed at the ceremony and entertained the audience and players. At the end of the program, the entire team once again celebrated the victory by lifting the World Cup trophy.
Even the scorching heat could not stop the enthusiasm of football lovers.
Despite temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius, thousands of supporters had taken to the streets of Madrid hours earlier. Many people brought umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun, but there was no lack of enthusiasm.
There was an atmosphere of celebration in many major areas of the capital including Puerta de Sol since Sunday night. People were seen waving the national flag of Spain, dancing, singing and bursting firecrackers. Many fans celebrated the victory throughout the night.
Second World Cup title after 2010
Spain won their second FIFA World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1–0 in the final thanks to a decisive extra-time goal from Ferran Torres. Earlier, Spain had won the World Cup trophy for the first time in 2010 in South Africa.
