Due to the ongoing war between America and Iran, the cost of America is increasing rapidly. American Defense Minister Pete Hegseth told the Appropriations Committee of the Senate that the United States has spent 37.5 billion dollars (about 3.2 lakh crore rupees) on the war so far. That figure is $8 billion more than the Pentagon estimated in May.
The Pentagon has now asked Congress for additional funding of $87 billion. Out of which about 67 billion dollars will be allocated for the ongoing military campaign in the Middle East. Haigseth called it necessary, saying that President Donald Trump’s $1.5 trillion defense budget is an investment in the future of the American military. If these funds are not available, there may be problems in paying soldiers, paying for arms and ammunition and continuing military operations without stopping.
The demand for new funding was questioned in the American Congress
The cost of war continues to rise. In the first week, its spending was shown at 11.3 billion dollars. While on May 12, it has crossed the mark of 29 billion and now 37.5 billion dollars. There was a heated discussion on this funding issue in the Congress. Senator Patty Murray said that this war is again moving towards an endless war. Trump repeatedly says that an agreement with Iran is close. Then why the additional fund of 70 billion dollars is needed.’ Senator Jean Shahin also questioned that, ‘Even half of last year’s budget of 150 billion dollars has not been used. So why is the new fund being demanded.’ Hegseth replied on this issue that the previous amount will be used up by September.
