Jantar Mantar Clashes: Fresh Violence Breaks Out in Central Delhi; ACPs Injured in Stone Pelting Near Tolstoy Marg:
Fresh violence erupted between demonstrators and security forces late Wednesday evening across central Delhi, affecting Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, and Tolstoy Marg. The late-night escalation resulted in injuries to five individuals, including three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
Security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Delhi Police, were deployed in high numbers around 8:30 PM to manage the crowd. According to police officials, anti-social elements embedded within the gathering began pelting stones and glass bottles at personnel, forcing officers to deploy tear gas shells and initiate a lathi-charge to restore order.

Among those injured was Vivek Bhagat, ACP of Connaught Placewho sustained injuries during the stone-pelting. Senior officers immediately rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for treatment. Reports further indicated that certain rogue elements within the crowd brandished sharp weapons, including swords and khukris, before fleeing as security forces pushed back.
Infiltration by Anti-Social Elements
While the situation directly inside the primary Jantar Mantar enclosure remained relatively stable, tension built up rapidly across adjoining thoroughfares near Tolstoy Marg, Janpath, and Connaught Place Outer Circle.
Delhi Police officials clarified that while peaceful demonstrations were underway, outside miscreants infiltrated the crowd to provoke violence and attack security forces intentionally. Heavy reinforcements have since been deployed across central Delhi intersections to prevent further flare-ups.
High Messaging Volume Reported Despite Network Jammers
In a significant administrative update, officials noted that even though localised internet suspensions were activated in New Delhi, the region saw exceptionally high messaging activity.
Localities surrounding Tolstoy Marg, Janpath, and Jantar Mantar experienced peak SMS traffic and cellular exchanges as crowds attempted to coordinate movements. Security agencies remain on high alert, monitoring communication channels and maintaining strict vigil across all entry routes into central Delhi.
