Senior Delhi Police Officer Removed From Jantar Mantar Security Duty Following Viral Slap Video

New Delhi: Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District) Sandeep Lamba has been removed from security management duties at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and sent back to his parent district after video footage surfaced showing him slapping a woman protester during a demonstration.

The incident occurred during a protest march organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) near Parliament and Jantar Mantar. As security forces moved to disperse demonstrators attempting to breach police barricades, a 35-second video captured Senior Police Officer Sandeep Lamba purportedly striking a female participant across the face without apparent provocation.

The clip circulated rapidly across social media platforms, triggering widespread public outrage and demands for immediate administrative action.

Following a high-level review meeting led by a Special Commissioner of Police, Lamba was relieved of all security responsibilities in the New Delhi district and redirected to his primary posting in the North East district.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale lodged an official police complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Lamba. The apex court issued notice on the PILs by Umesh Kumar and Anshul Kumar to the police, the central government, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and gave four weeks to the authorities to file their counter affidavits, reported NDTV. It also directed the authorities to preserve all relevant records in relation to the police action, including video footage.

While police spokespersons have not officially confirmed whether formal internal disciplinary proceedings have been initiated, senior officials noted off the record that Lamba was recalled following the intense controversy.
