- Strict action against violators after December 31
- Ministers, MPs, and MLAs are also not exempted.
Vijay Kate: The Transport Department has given an important warning to vehicle owners in the state. State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has clarified that strict action will be taken against vehicles without High Security Registration Plate (HSRP Number Plate) after December 31. Therefore, vehicle owners who have not yet installed HSRP plates have been appealed to complete the process before the deadline.
According to the Transport Department, it has been observed that fake or plain number plates are being misused in criminal incidents. This has made HSRP number plates mandatory on all vehicles to ensure accurate identification of vehicles and help law enforcement agencies.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said that HSRP number plates have been installed on about one crore old vehicles in the state so far. However, only 55 to 56 percent of the total old vehicle owners have completed this process. He appealed to the remaining vehicle owners to get HSRP installed before December 31.
Sarnaik clearly stated that the rules are the same for all, be it ministers, MPs, MLAs, public representatives or common citizens. No special exemption will be given to anyone regarding HSRP number plates.
Also, action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act against vehicles without HSRP number plates after December 31. The Transport Minister clarified that penal action will be taken against vehicle owners who violate the rules and similar action will be taken against vehicles of public representatives. Therefore, the Transport Department has appealed to vehicle owners to install HSRP number plates as soon as possible and follow the rules without waiting for the deadline.
HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) is a high security registration plate designed for vehicles. This plate is made of aluminum and has various security features on it. The main purpose of this plate is to prevent fake number plates, easily identify vehicles and track vehicles in criminal incidents.

Laser-Code (Laser Engraved Unique Serial Number) – Each plate has a unique number.
Chromium-based hologram – makes it easy to identify a counterfeit plate.
Non-removable snap lock – Once the plate is removed, it cannot be reinstalled.
Reflective sheet – The number is clearly visible even at night.
A color sticker is provided on the windshield – a sticker indicating the type of fuel (petrol, diesel, CNG, electric).
