Varun Dhawan backs students' right to protest

Mumbai: Actor Varun Dhawan has voiced his support for students participating in protests across the country, saying they have every right to question the system when they feel it has failed them. Calling students “the future of our country”, the actor urged authorities to engage with their concerns and ensure a fair and transparent resolution.

Sharing a note on Instagram, Varun emphasised that peaceful protest is a democratic right while expressing hope that the movement remains centred on student issues.

‘Students have every right to ask questions’

In his Instagram post, Varun highlighted the emotional and social impact of a student’s aspirations being disrupted.

“Students are the future of our country. When a student’s dream is crushed, it’s not just one dream that’s lost; it’s the dream of an entire family. They have every right to ask questions when they feel the system has failed them. Their voices deserve to be heard, protected, and addressed with sincerity,” he wrote.

The actor’s remarks come amid ongoing student demonstrations demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities and other education-related concerns.

Appeal to authorities for dialogue

Varun also appealed to the government and authorities to address students’ grievances through meaningful engagement.

“I appeal to the authorities to engage with these concerns and work towards a fair, transparent, and meaningful resolution that ensures accountability,” he said.

He stressed that constructive dialogue and accountability are essential in resolving the issues raised by students.

‘Hope this remains a students’ protest’

While expressing solidarity with the protesters, Varun also hoped the movement would remain focused on its original objectives.

“I also sincerely hope this remains a students’ protest. The focus must remain on the issues affecting the students and the solutions they deserve. Peaceful protest is a democratic right, and every student should be allowed to exercise that right. Jai Hind,” he wrote.

His statement underscores the importance of maintaining the movement’s focus on education-related concerns.
