But for now it is being rolled out only on selected users and devices but its scope is expected to increase in the coming time.

New recovery option will be available with passkey

Google has informed about the new feature that Selfie Video Verification will serve as an additional account recovery option along with the existing Passkeys and Recovery Contacts. Which simply means that if for some reason you are not able to log in to your Google Account or other recovery options do not work, then this feature will help you get access to the account again by verifying your identity. To use this facility, it is necessary to sign in to your Google Account beforehand. Without logging in, users will not be able to setup their selfie video.

How to setup selfie video?

However, this feature has not been made available to all users yet. For this, first of all you have to check whether your device is eligible for this facility or not. For which availability can be checked by opening g.co/signin-selfie in the browser. If you have this feature available, Google will give you the option to record a short selfie video through the camera. During setup, you will have to follow the instructions given on the screen and rotate your head in different directions while looking at the camera. In this process, the camera will scan your face from multiple angles after which the video will be safely saved in your Google Account.

This will be useful in case you forget your password

Regarding this new feature, it is being told that in future, if you forget the password of your Google Account or are not able to log in from a new device, then Google will ask you to record a new selfie video. After this the system will compare the new video with the already saved video. If the matching of both is successful then the account access will be restored after your identity is verified.
