A shooting occurred at a Thai school on Friday, killing six people. A student opened fire at a school near the Thai capital, Bangkok. The six people killed in the shooting were three teachers and three students. The attacker has also been killed. The shooting injured 20 to 30 people. The school shooting has raised questions about security.
The shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located on a busy highway in Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok. According to Reuters, Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong said that six people, including teachers and students, were killed in the shooting at a Thai school on Friday. The minister did not clarify whether the gunman, who police say committed suicide, was among the four dead.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed condolences and ordered relevant authorities to care for the victims. Photos from the scene, about an hour after the shooting, showed people standing outside the school, comforting each other. Gun laws in Thailand are considered strict. Possession of illegal weapons can result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years. Despite this, such situations have been occurring in the country. In February, a teacher was killed and a student was injured in a school shooting in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand. In October 2022, a former police officer went on a gun and knife rampage in Nong Bua Lamphu province, killing dozens of people, including children.
