Sri Lanka Batsmen Get Off to a Fast Start
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka XI made a strong start. Opener Nishan Fernando played aggressively, scoring 66 runs in just 65 balls. His innings included 11 fours and one six. Ravindu Rasantha also provided good support from the other end.
The two batsmen put together a brilliant 110-run partnership for the first wicket in 20.4 overs. During this period, the Indian bowlers failed to take a single wicket. Ultimately, this partnership was broken not by a bowler, but by a run-out.
How did the first wicket come?
In the 21st over, while attempting a run, the two batsmen lost coordination. Nishan Fernando went for the run, but Ravindu Rasantha denied him. Both reached the same end. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s throw initially went to the wrong end, but Manav Suthar showed his speed and threw the ball towards Rishabh Pant. The ball then reached KL Rahul standing in the slips, and Nishan Fernando was run out. This is how India got its first breakthrough.
The Indian bowlers struggled for wickets throughout the opening session. Captain KL Rahul used both fast and spin bowlers, but neither got any early breakthrough.
Who conceded more runs?
Mohammed Siraj conceded 14 runs in his first five overs, while Prasidh Krishna conceded 27 runs in his five overs. Ravindra Jadeja also failed to take a wicket in his opening spell. Gurnur Brar also failed to put pressure on the batsmen.
