Father had sold his land and sent him to Canada, Damanpreet was killed by his live-in partner.

A heartbreaking news has come out from Edminton, Canada, which has not only shattered the dreams of an ordinary family of Punjab, but has also shocked the Indian community living abroad. 23-year-old Damanpreet Kaur, resident of Ludhiana, was brutally strangled to death by her live-in partner. The daughter for whom her father had sold his hard-earned money and even his land for a bright future, is returning today in a coffin. The police took immediate action in the case and arrested the accused.

Actually, this painful incident happened in Silverberry area of ​​Edminton. On the evening of July 9, Edminton police received an emergency call from a home. When the police and paramedical team reached the spot, Damanpreet was lying unconscious. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he died on July 12 after fighting for life and death for three days. After the initial investigation, when the postmortem report came on July 14, everyone was stunned—the report made it clear that Damanpreet’s death was not natural but due to strangulation.

Meeting and love started during studies

Damanpreet Kaur went to Canada on study visa about 5 years ago. Damanpreet’s father, a resident of village Lal Kalan in Samrala, Ludhiana, is studying in a Gurudwara. The father had sold his land to support his daughter’s education and fulfill her dreams. After completing her studies, Damanpreet started working in Edminton.

It is being told that during his studies in the year 2021, he met Ritesh Kumar (22), a resident of Delhi. Their friendship gradually turned into love and then they started living together in a live-in relationship. However, no one had any idea that this cheerful life would take such a terrible turn.

Accused live-in partner arrested, case of domestic violence

The Homicide Unit of the Edminton Police Service arrested the accused Ritesh Kumar on July 22 after a thorough investigation of the case. Police have charged him with serious charges of second-degree murder. According to police officials, this case is completely domestic i.e. partner violence.

Canadian Police has clarified that apart from Ritesh, no one else’s role is visible in this murder and no other suspect is being sought in the case. However, what was the dispute between the two that led to murder, has not been revealed yet.

Struggle to bring the dead body to India, family struggling with financial crisis

After the news of daughter’s death, the family in Ludhiana is in bad condition. The paperwork process is going on to bring Damanpreet’s mortal remains back to India, but the financial condition of the family is very bad. According to Canadian media reports, a GoFundMe campaign has been started there to send the body to India and raise the remaining expenses. At present, it has not been decided when the mortal remains will reach Punjab, while the family is still waiting for some concrete help from the government or the Indian Embassy.
