- Construction and revitalization work of ponds started under Vikas Bharat Ji-Ram Ji campaign
Bijnor. Taking a big initiative towards dealing with the water crisis and improving the groundwater level, the Bijnor administration started the construction and revitalization works of 157 ponds in the district on Thursday under the Vikas Bharat Ji-Ram Ji campaign. Under this campaign started in the first phase, a total of more than 500 ponds have been selected in the district.
District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur inaugurated the pond revitalization work in Gorakhpur Topri Gram Panchayat of Haldaur development block. During this, he appealed to the villagers to make water conservation a mass movement and said that it is everyone’s responsibility to save every drop of water. He also administered the oath of water conservation to the public representatives, officers, employees and villagers and made them pledge for rain water harvesting and conservation of water sources.
Chief Development Officer Ranvijay Singh, while inaugurating the work in Gram Panchayat Bhojpur Bhopatpur of development block Mohammadpur Devmal, directed the officers to complete all the work in a quality manner within the stipulated time limit.
Under the campaign, the work of digging and revitalization of ponds was started simultaneously in various development blocks including Afzalgarh, Budhanpur Seohara, Dhampur, Haldaur, Jalilpur, Kiratpur, Kotwali, Mohammadpur Devmal, Najibabad, Nahtaur and Noorpur. At various places, public representatives and officials launched the campaign by wielding shovels and encouraged village heads, secretaries, technical assistants, village employment servants and workers.
The administration has instructed the Deputy Commissioner (Labor Employment) to start work on more than 500 selected ponds by the first week of August. Besides, the catchment area, inlet and outlet of each pond will be developed as per the technical standards and shady plants will also be planted on the banks.
