New Delhi, 24 July. Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu has resigned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. President Draupadi Murmu, on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has accepted the resignation of Ravneet Singh from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect. This decision has been taken under Article 75(2) of the Indian Constitution. According to the official information released by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday evening, the resignation has come into effect with immediate effect.
Rajya Sabha tenure of Ravneet Singh 21 it ended in June
It is noteworthy that the Rajya Sabha tenure of Ravneet Singh Bittu had ended on June 21 last month. At the same time, BJP did not make Ravneet Bittu a candidate again in the Rajya Sabha elections held on June 18. Despite this, Bittu’s resignation had not been sought yet. Now his resignation was accepted on Friday.
Bittu left Congress and joined BJP in March 2024.
Ravneet Singh Bittu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 24, 2024. He previously served as the Leader of the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha from March 11, 2021, to July 18, 2021. Bittu was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from Ludhiana in the 2014 and 2019 Indian general elections and earlier from Anandpur Sahib in 2009. He is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and became a cabinet minister in PM Narendra Modi’s third term in 2024.
Ravneet Singh Bittu was attacked on the Sindhu border during the ‘Jan Sansad’ program in January 2021. He was appointed whip of the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha. In March 2021, when Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, the then leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha, was busy campaigning for the 2021 West Bengal elections, Bittu was also appointed leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha for some time.
