Why did the French government ban social media?

According to the French Health Agency, about 90 percent of children aged 12 to 17 years use social media through the Internet. What will happen if the new rules are implemented?

According to the new rules applicable in France regarding social media, from the month of September, children below 15 years of age will not be able to create a new account on social media. Whereas already created accounts will be deleted. The rule clearly states that children below 15 years of age will not be able to create accounts on Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook as well as other social media platforms.
