Password option will be available instead of 6 digit PIN

WABetaInfo has reported in its report that WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to replace the existing two-step verification PIN with a password. For now, the platform uses only 6 digit numeric PIN, but in the new system, users will be able to create a strong password by combining both letters and numbers. At the same time, cyber security experts have also been advising the use of strong passwords for a long time. In such a situation, this change can prove especially beneficial for those who share banking information, financial transactions or other sensitive data through WhatsApp.

Currently the feature is only in the development stage

It is clearly stated in the report that this new security feature is still in the initial development stage and has not been made available even for beta testers at the moment. In such a situation, the company can make changes in it before launch or even cancel it if necessary. But like the existing two-step verification, this new feature is also likely to remain optional. Which simply means that this change will not be mandatory for users who do not use two-step verification.

Manage two-step verification like this

WhatsApp users can still easily manage their account’s two-step verification settings. For this, the feature can be turned on or off by going to Settings > Account > Two-step verification. The option to change the PIN and update the recovery email address is also available from this section.
