The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET, JEE, and CUET, is set for a major overhaul following nationwide protests over exam paper leaks.
The government has confirmed that 47 officials will be removed from the agency, with further disciplinary action expected.
A new expert committee will recommend reforms to strengthen NTA’s efficiency and ensure a leak-proof systemparticularly by revising outsourcing methods.
In parallel, the Centre has greenlit amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024introducing harsher penalties for organised exam leaks. Jail terms will now extend up to 10 yearswhile fines for institutions or gangs involved in malpractice will rise to ₹10 crore.
The move comes amid intense protests led by the satirical Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)which has demanded Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, systemic reforms, and ₹1 crore compensation for families of students who died by suicide after the NEET-UG leak in May.
This overhaul marks one of the most significant steps in India’s education sector, aimed at restoring trust in national examinations.
