The national capital, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, have witnessed heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder. Monsoon activity is also at its peak in eastern India. Red and orange alerts have been issued for heavy rain and lightning in several districts of Bihar and West Bengal. Many rivers in Bihar are flowing close to the danger mark. Meanwhile, in Assam, torrential rains over the past few days have completely submerged the lower parts of the state. Due to the rapid rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra River, dozens of districts in Assam have again been hit by floods, threatening the displacement of thousands of people.
Yellow alert, landslide warning in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
The torrential rains continue to lash the hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued a “yellow alert” for most districts in both states. Due to the continuous rainfall in the mountains, many roads, including national highways, have been blocked by landslides and debris. Rivers like the Alaknanda, Mandakini, and Bhagirathi are in spate. The local administration has strongly advised tourists and residents to avoid going near rivers and streams and to exercise special caution in landslide-prone areas.
