Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra congratulated Indian javelin thrower Ashish Yadav for winning the silver medal at the U20 World Athletics Championships, describing the achievement as especially meaningful as a fellow javelin thrower. In a post on X, Chopra praised Ashish’s performance at the global junior championships, stating, “Always a great feeling to see Indian athletes competing and winning at the International level, this one is little more special for me as a javelin thrower. Super proud of you Ashish on your Silver at the U-20 Worlds, this is just the start!”
Ashish Yadav delivered his best effort of 74.09 metres in the third round to secure second place. South Africa’s Heymans won the gold with a throw of 80.50 metres, while Dominica’s James took bronze with 73.89 metres.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also extended congratulations to Ashish for his silver medal. Posting on X, Dhami stated, “Ashish Yadav clinched the silver medal at the World U20 Athletics Championship with a splendid throw of 74.09 meters. This outstanding performance is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication. Heartiest congratulations to Ashish Yadav on this remarkable achievement, and best wishes for a bright future ahead!”
India’s T. Dharanidharan also participated in the event, finishing sixth with a best throw of 72.35 metres.
The competition follows in the footsteps of India’s Neeraj Chopra, who won the U20 javelin gold in 2016 with a world-record throw of 86.48 metres.
