ITR Portal Down: Last date for filing Income Tax Return ITR is 31st July. As the ITR filing date approaches, the Income Tax department’s e-filing portal has come to a standstill. Many taxpayers and CAs have complained about system issues on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. A large number of people have posted on the social media platform X that they are facing problems in filing and depositing their ITRs as the portal is not working properly.

According to users, many are also facing difficulty in logging into the portal. Some reported that the issue persisted for hours, while others reported that the portal was down completely, leading to problems in filing and depositing ITRs.

What complaints are users making?

A user wrote on X, “Income tax portal has been down for two hours and ITR filing and fee collection process is not going on. At least on income tax payment day the portal should have worked properly.” Another user wrote that the e-filing portal was down for a long time, so no returns were filed or money deposited.

Respect to every CA who’s spending more time watching the IncomeTax portal load than actually filing ITRs today.

Many people on social media have also suggested that if the issue is not resolved soon, the ITR filing deadline of 31 July should be extended. But neither the government nor the income tax department has yet announced any extension.

Over 35 million ITRs filed

According to the Income Tax Department’s website, more than 35 million ITRs have been filed for the year 2026-27. Every year, a large number of people file their returns as the deadline approaches and this often creates problems on the portal.

The Income Tax department has neither commented on the portal’s problems nor explained the reason for it. Currently, taxpayers facing problems while using the portal will have to wait for the portal to be fixed. Till further information from the department, the last date for filing ITR will remain till 31st July.
