Vietnam gold prices rose Saturday morning to the highest since July 22, following a jump of the precious metal on global markets.
Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar went up 1.27% to VND144 million (US$5,495.24) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.
Gold ring was unchanged at VND145.2 million per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces. Gold prices in Vietnam have fallen 5.8% so far this year.
Globally gold surged on Friday, hitting its highest in seven weeks, after an unexpected drop in U.S. nonfarm payrolls for July dashed rate-hike hopes and set bullion on course for its best week in seven months, Reuters reported.
Spot gold jumped 2.3% to $4,336.02 per ounce, having risen more than 3% to its highest since June 17.
Bullion is set to post its largest weekly rise since Jan. 19, with prices gaining more than 7% so far this week. U.S. gold futures climbed 2.3% to settle at $4,399.70.
