JPSC Preliminary Examination-2025 Controversy: Public interest litigation in the Supreme Court regarding irregularities in the JPSC examination, demanding re-examination and CBI investigation.

New Delhi. On one hand, the protest of students is going on in Ranchi regarding the alleged irregularities in the preliminary examination of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) 2025, on the other hand, this matter has now reached the Supreme Court. A public interest petition has been filed in the apex court by social activist Harishran Devgan, in which he has demanded cancellation of JPSC preliminary examination-2025 and re-conducting it and investigation of the alleged irregularities in the previous examination by CBI or any independent inquiry committee. The petitioner has requested to form an independent inquiry committee headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court or a retired Chief Justice of the High Court of any state other than Jharkhand.

The PIL also demands an independent audit of the OMR scanning, coding, evaluation, and result preparation process. The petitioner has sought to determine whether it is possible to identify candidates who passed the exam correctly and incorrectly based on evidence. The JPSC preliminary exam was conducted on April 19, 2026. The preliminary exam results were also released on July 2, 2026. Subsequently, a carbon copy of a successful candidate’s OMR sheet went viral on social media, in which he was declared successful despite answering only 48 out of 100 questions in the first paper.

Following this, the students became enraged and alleged exam irregularities. A large number of students have been protesting in Ranchi since July 25th. Although the Jharkhand government has handed over the investigation of the entire matter to the CID, the protesting students are not satisfied. A day earlier, a delegation of the protesting students and Soren government ministers Deepika Pandey Singh, Sudibya Kumar Sonu, Chamra Linda, Sanjay Yadav, and Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh held talks. However, no results were achieved.
