Internal discord in Patan Congress: Press conference held in support of Amit Chavda

Local leaders accused of poor candidate selection

Internal discord in Patan Congress has come to the surface. This situation has arisen after the meeting of Congress leaders from North Gujarat with Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. Former Patan District Congress President Babuji Thakor and other leaders held a press conference on Saturday and defended state president Amit Chavda and made serious allegations against the local leadership. North Gujarat leaders including MLA Dr. Kirit Patel, District Congress President Gamerbhai Desai, former MLA Raghubhai Desai and Geniben Thakor had presented before the high command in Delhi. In protest against this presentation, internal discord in Patan Congress has come to the surface.

North Gujarat leaders including MLA Dr. Kirit Patel, District Congress President Gamerbhai Desai, former MLA Raghubhai Desai and Geniben Thakor had presented themselves before the high command in Delhi. Attacking the leaders who had gone to Delhi, Babuji Thakor said that the responsibility of ticket allocation in the local body elections was entrusted to the District Congress President, current and former MLAs. He alleged that these leaders had selected weak candidates for personal gain and with the intention of making the BJP win. He further said that instead of strengthening the organization, the District Congress President spent his time in ‘bhuvapana’, due to which the desired results were not achieved in the elections.

It is not fair to blame the failure in the elections on the state president Amit Chavda. Thakor gave an example and said that the Congress got 80,000 votes from the Thakor community in the Patan assembly seat, but in the Lok Sabha elections, MLA Dr. Kirit Patel Thakor could not even get 20,000 votes for the candidate. In this situation, he accused the local leadership of opposing the state leadership to hide its failure. In the coming days, Congress leaders from Patan and North Gujarat will go to Delhi in support of Amit Chavda. They told reporters that they will present the entire situation in detail to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
