Athar with eyes closed, or Honda of trust? Battle of the best in the EV market, take your pick

Currently, the price of petrol is skyrocketing. Demand for e-scooters in the Indian two-wheeler market is growing by leaps and bounds due to environmental awareness. In this market, on the one hand, the stylish and technology-based startup brand Ather 450X, preferred by the young generation, on the other hand, there is Honda Activa-E, a symbol of trust and confidence for many years. In terms of looks, the Athar is a very modern gadget, with a light weight of 108 kg, it can easily rule the city traffic. On the other hand, the Honda Activa E retains its familiar classic matte body design, perfect as a robust family scooter.

While the Athar’s sporty suspension provides excellent balance at high-speeds, the Honda’s telescopic forks and tall seat keep both the rider and rear passengers comfortable on bumpy roads. There is a big difference between the two in terms of space or bootspace. The Athar has a massive 22 liters of storage and the Honda Activa has virtually no space under the seat, as the entire space is occupied by the two large batteries. However, in terms of performance or pickup, Athar is simply impeccable. Its powerful 6.4 kW motor and excellent Warp Mode allow it to accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 90 kmph. On the other hand, the Japanese-engineered Honda Activa E has a 6 kW motor, with a top speed of 80 km/h. But the Honda’s ride at this speed is smooth, quiet, jerk-free. Honda Activa E is best for those who want to drive more comfortably than sports.

The two companies have very different strategies to address worries about running out of charge for electric vehicles. The Athar 450X has a fixed lithium-ion battery, which gives an accurate range of 126 to 161 km. It takes 4 and a half hours to charge at home. On the other hand, Honda Activa E has come with a revolutionary battery swapping technology, which has a certified range of 102 km. Honda’s biggest advantage is that you don’t have to sit at the plug for hours when its charge is over. You can drop off your discharged battery in just 2 minutes at the nearest Honda Swap Station and get back on your way with a fully charged battery.

In terms of technology, Athar is the ultimate mobile computer, with modern conveniences like a 7-inch Snapdragon-powered TFT touchscreen, Google Maps, Bluetooth connectivity or on-screen cricket scores. Honda Activa E also has an excellent dynamic display of 7 inches with 100 nits brightness which can be seen clearly even in harsh sunlight. Honda Activa E ex-showroom price starts at Rs 1,18,147 and the top variant is priced at Rs 1,52,747. The Ather 450X starts at Rs 1,51,547, which goes up to Rs 1,73,000 with the Pro Pack. For those who are looking for comfort rather than sports fun, Honda will be ahead of the curve. And for those who prefer a sporty look full of features, close your eyes.
