In Greater Noida, carelessness again took the life of an innocent child, six year old Avyan died due to drowning in a 15 feet deep pit.

Greater Noida Child Drowns In Pit: A very painful and angering incident has come to light from the Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida. Six-year-old innocent Avyan Surya died after falling into a 15 feet deep water-filled pit dug by the Greater Noida Authority for boring near Kaladham Society. Avyan was the son of Siwan Yadav, vice principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya. He was playing outside with his friends on Saturday when this terrible accident happened. This incident has once again proved how big a difference there is between administrative claims and ground reality.

Innocent Avyan fell into the pit while playing

On Saturday, Avyan was playing with other children near the society. While playing, he reached near that open pit filled with water. There was no security arrangement around the pit, due to which his foot slipped and he fell straight into 15 feet deep water. Seeing Avyan falling, the children playing together started making loud noise. Hearing the voices of the children, the local people present nearby immediately reached the spot.

Doctors declared him dead on reaching the hospital

The panicked local people without wasting any time entered the water and started searching for Avyan. After a lot of effort and hard work, the innocent child could be taken out of the water. People immediately ran to take him to the nearest hospital, so that his life could be saved. However, on reaching the hospital, the doctors declared him dead after examination. This news sent a wave of mourning across the area and created chaos in Avyan’s family.

The pit was filled with rain water without warning

Local residents say that the authority had dug this big pit several days ago for boring work. After the work was over or stopped, it was left open like this. Due to the recent rains, this pit was completely filled with water and had become like a deadly pond. The biggest negligence was that neither the contractor nor the officials installed any barricading nor any warning board around the pit.

Administration did not learn any lesson even from old accidents

Angry people said that even before this, Yuvraj Mehta had died after falling into an open pit. At that time, the Greater Noida Authority had made tall claims that all the pits dug in the entire city would be barricaded and safety standards would be strictly followed. But this incident at Kaladham has made it clear that all those claims were limited to papers only. People have demanded that the open pits near all the ongoing construction works in the city should be immediately covered and protected.

SDM ordered legal action against the contractor

As soon as information about the incident was received, SDM Sadar Ashutosh Gupta reached the spot along with the district administration team and took stock of the situation. The people of the society registered their strong protest before the SDM and complained about the pit being left without any security arrangements. SDM Ashutosh Gupta admitted that the contractor is completely responsible for the accident. He has assured the victim’s family and people that strictest legal action will be taken against the guilty contractor.
