Mirabai Chanu has created history by winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time in a row. He has won gold medal in weightlifting last three times. At the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Mirabai won the gold medal in the 48 kg weight category. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him for this historic victory.

Considered a source of inspiration for Indians
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Mirabai Chanu a source of inspiration for every Indian. He said via social media, “Another new chapter has been added to Indian weightlifting. He has inspired every Indian by winning back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and fourth medal overall. Congratulations to him for this historic victory and best wishes for the challenges ahead.”
Won four consecutive Commonwealth Games medals
Mirabai Chanu has won four consecutive Commonwealth Games medals. He won the silver medal in 2014. He has since won gold medals in 2018, 2022 and now 2026. On Sunday, in the 48 kg weight class, he created history by lifting 85 kg in the snatch round and 105 kg in the clean and jerk round. He set separate Commonwealth Games records in both rounds.
One of the most successful weightlifters
Mirabai Chanu is one of India’s most successful weightlifters. She was a silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and finished fourth at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is also a former world weightlifting champion in the 48 kg category.
