Bank of Baroda cyber attack! Secret data of billions of customers exposed on the dark web
Cyber attack on Bank of Baroda, one of the top state-owned banks of the country (Bank of Baroda Cyber Attack). Millions of customers’ information was stolen and leaked on the dark web. This sensational incident has caused a stir. The hacker group claimed to have obtained around 1 terabyte or 1 TB of data by attacking the bank’s servers. Where customer name, aadhaar card, loan related everything is there. All this information is circulating on the dark web.
Srikanth Laxman, founder of ‘CashlessConsumer’, released a sample of the leaked document and termed the incident as a cyber disaster. It is known that on July 25, the issue of information leakage came to the fore for the first time through the dark web tracking site ‘ransomeware.live’. Srikanth said, he verified these documents and found branch audit, loan appraisal, internal communication and customer application. However, no hacker organization has yet claimed responsibility for the incident. But Srikanth’s guess is that a new hacker group named ‘TripleX’ is behind it. The organization was previously involved in the theft of nearly 2TB of data at a bank in Indonesia. Neither the Reserve Bank of Baroda nor the Bank of Baroda have commented on the matter.
On July 25, the information leak came to light for the first time through the dark web tracking site ‘ransomeware.live’.
The hacker group claimed that the leaked 1TB data included customers’ savings and current account records, credit and net banking information, records of NRI and corporate banking services, as well as documents related to various branches and ATMs. The list also includes customer name, phone number and Aadhaar information. Naturally, the financial security of customers is in question in this incident.
However, this is not the first case of cyber attacks on banks and other important organizations of the country. Recently, 19,000 sensitive files of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, India have been leaked. The hacking company ‘World Leaks’ hacked a server of Anil Ambani’s Reliance ADAG, the contractor of the nuclear power plant. The leaked documents include layout designs for various parts of the nuclear plant, internal management, component designs, supplier details, and even safety information.
