The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major and severe weather alert and said that tomorrow 23 states and union territories will see severe monsoon havoc. There is a strong possibility of heavy rain in a large part of the country including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Odisha. While there will be light to moderate showers in many areas, heavy to very heavy rain is expected at many places. According to meteorologists, this major change in weather patterns has occurred due to a deep depression in the North-West Bay of Bengal and a very active monsoon system.

Yellow alert in Delhi-NCR, relief from humidity

People of the capital Delhi and surrounding NCR region are expected to get a big relief from the humid heat tomorrow. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for here and has predicted strong winds and light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms. Apart from Delhi, many periods of heavy rain can also be seen in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and all their surrounding areas. During this period, the maximum temperature here is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has also issued a strict warning of lightning and strong winds, due to which people have been advised to avoid open spaces and standing directly under trees.

Impact of heavy rain in many districts of Uttar Pradesh

Monsoon seems to be completely kind and active in Uttar Pradesh also. According to the Meteorological Department, there is every possibility of good rain in both the western and eastern parts of the state. It may rain in most districts of western Uttar Pradesh, while heavy rain may also be recorded at some selected places. On the other hand, widespread rain has also been predicted in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and especially heavy rain in many districts tomorrow may increase the problems of the common people.

Severe weather conditions in Bihar and Odisha

Monsoon will be fully active tomorrow in most parts of Bihar also. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of good rain in many districts of the state, however after this there may be some reduction in rain activities and it may remain only in some limited areas.

On the other hand, the situation is already quite challenging due to continuous torrential rains in Odisha. The weather department has issued a direct red alert for Sundergarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected. Apart from this, Orange Alert has been implemented in 19 districts and Yellow Alert in eight districts. As a precautionary measure, all schools in Jagatsinghpur, Sonpur, Mayurbhanj and Kendrapara districts have been closed, and the administration has appealed to the general public to come out of their homes only for essential work.

Clouds will thunder in West Bengal

The direct and clear effect of the deep pressure in the Bay of Bengal will be seen in West Bengal also. The Meteorological Department says that many districts of South Bengal may receive heavy to extremely heavy rains. Heavy rain is expected in West Medinipur, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur districts. On the other hand, intermittent heavy rains may continue in sub-Himalayan districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in many other parts of the country. These include areas of Eastern Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka and Southern Interior Karnataka. Apart from this, a strict alert of heavy rain has also been issued in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
