New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Commonwealth Games silver medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who had objected to an incorrect map of India at a Glasgow restaurant. Modi praised Lovlina during his informal interaction with Commonwealth Games medallists on Sunday. The Prime Minister cracked jokes and heard from the medallists about their preparations for the Games and their experiences in Glasgow. Modi’s office released the video on Monday.
He asked Lovlina, who won a silver medal in the 75kg category, what happened? She was arguing with the restaurant owner. The Assamese boxer replied with a smile, “It was a happy occasion. We were celebrating, and I didn’t like seeing the wrong map of the country. I politely told them, and they made the changes.”
Modi praised her, saying it was wise, especially at a time when she was celebrating her victory. “Recognizing the significance of that map at the conclusion of the Games and in the midst of celebrations,” he said. “I can tell you the truth, that video was not ordinary. People will remember it for a long time.”
