The Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan has been named as a replacement for injured Sai Sudharsan for the upcoming two-match test series against Sri Lanka starting in the second week of August.
The left-hander has been ruled out after sustaining a toe injury during India’s A tour last month and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Sai Sudharsan has shown notable progress during his recovery, with its medical staff closely monitoring his progress.
The Men’s selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match test series against Sri Lanka, ” said the BCCI in a release.
“He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first test match, starting August 15, 2026.”
On the other hand, 28-year-old Sarfaraz Khan has featured in six Tests, with his most recent appearance coming against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2024.
In 11 innings, he has a century and three fifties to his name. He also had an impressive Ranji Trophy in 2025-26, scoring 429 runs in nine innings at an average of 53.62.
Sarfaraz Khan has been named in the West Zone Squad for Duleep Trophy, which is set to begin August 23, and will coincide with Sri Lanka tests. He also missed the last edition of the Duleep Trophy due to injury.
Moreover, Sarfaraz Khan hasn’t played professional cricket since playing for Sarfaraz Khan in the IPL 2026 earlier this year.
In the absence of Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal will be front runner to play at No.3 after an impressive century in a practice game against SLC XI.
