In Jharkhand, students reached near the assembly complex, state government asked for SOS

  • 17th day of protest against unfair practices in JPSC-JSSC examination: Students gherao the assembly after talks with the government failed

Ranchi, August 10, 2026 – JharkhandThe student movement took a decisive turn today. Since no decision was taken in the meeting with the state government yesterday on Sunday, the students today moved ahead with their pre-planned program of gheraoing the Legislative Assembly. During this time, the police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas, in which some students were also injured.

Meanwhile, according to the reports received in the late evening, some students were successful in breaking the barricade and reaching near the Legislative Assembly complex, while some students took other routes from the fields and reached gate number one of the Legislative Assembly complex.

Jharkhand's Hemant Soren government, frightened after seeing the aggression of the students, is learned to have ordered the police of all the districts of the state to reach Ranchi.

Students stand firm on demanding CBI investigation into exam scam

Earlier, the students' agitation had become more aggressive against the alleged irregularities and incidents of paper leaks in the recruitment examinations of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The third round of talks held between the students and the government on the 17th day of the movement also ended without any solution. Not being able to agree to the main two demands of the students, the agitating students had called for gheraoing the Jharkhand Assembly.

In the meeting held between the committee constituted by the government and the student delegation, no consensus could be reached on the demand for cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary examination and a CBI or judicial inquiry into the irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination. The students say that the agitation will continue until all their demands are satisfied. Following the call to gherao the Assembly, security arrangements have been made extremely tight in Ranchi.

To stop the agitating students from moving towards the assembly, the police had barricaded and deployed heavy police convoys. Meanwhile, there are also reports of police firing water cannon and tear gas shells to disperse the students. On the other hand, this issue has also heated up the state politics and opposition parties have come in support of the students and are demanding a transparent investigation from the government.
