Central Railway has launched a special campaign for timely identification, classification and disposal of scrap accumulated in different departments. Its objective is to achieve 'scrap-free status'. With this, Central Railway has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark from scrap sale in the first few months of the financial year.
Till August 5, 2026, Central Railway earned Rs 202.55 crore from scrap sale. This year, there has been an increase of 76.94 percent in scrap sales as compared to the same time last year. Central Railway Administration said that this is the fastest achievement of Central Railway to reach the figure of Rs 200 crore from scrap sale.
This income was earned from the planned disposal of railway rails, sleepers, ferrous and other metal scrap as well as old locomotives, coaches and wagons. Till August 5, Central Railway sold 17,755 MT rail scrap, 1,21,381 sleepers, 11,658 MT ferrous scrap and 1,370 MT other metal scrap. In addition, 11 locomotives, 33 coaches and 33 wagons were also sold.
Mumbai division led in scrap sale with an income of Rs 36.78 crore. After this, Bhusaval Division stood second with an income of Rs 33.19 crore, Pune Division Rs 27.22 crore, Nagpur Division Rs 26.12 crore and Solapur Division Rs 10.85 crore. It was told that the production unit and workshop together generated an income of Rs 68.39 crore.
Meanwhile, this campaign is being run with the aim of reducing scrap stock, converting it into income, increasing efficiency and promoting environment balance.
