A very rare and historical astronomical event is going to happen in space on the new moon day of Shravan month. Today, the biggest total solar eclipse of the year is going to occur, due to which many parts of the world will be completely dark during the day.
Madhya Pradesh's National Award winning science broadcaster Sarika Gharu said that this event is especially historic for the European continent, because a total solar eclipse is going to be seen there after 27 years. Earlier, Europe had seen such a scene in the year 1999.
He told that as per Indian time, this eclipse will start at 9:04 pm on August 12 and will cross the midnight and end after midnight (on August 13) at 01:27 am. Since the entire duration of the eclipse will be during night time in India, when the Sun is already hidden below the horizon, hence this solar eclipse will not be visible anywhere in India.
He told that during the eclipse the huge shadow of the Moon will cover a large part of the Earth. The main path of the total solar eclipse will pass through northern Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and Portugal, where people will experience day turning into night. Apart from this, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across Europe, Canada and parts of North America.
Sarika has appealed to people to stay away from superstitions associated with the eclipse and see it only as a beautiful natural and astronomical phenomenon. About 12 percent of the world's population will be able to see this eclipse directly. Astronomy lovers of India can watch this amazing scene through online live stream of NASA or other scientific institutions.
He told that after 15 days of this eclipse, there will be a partial lunar eclipse on August 28, but this too will not be seen in India. Sarika said that if you want to see it in your city in India, then you will have to wait till August 2, 2027, when it will be visible as a partial solar eclipse.
