The ever-increasing injury concern of Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has raised a big question before the team management. According to the report, after the 2027 World Cup, Bumrah may be restricted to only T20 International cricket. Considering his fitness, India may have to start preparations from now to play without him in longer formats like Test and ODI. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation to recover from his left knee problem.
Bumrah has not bowled since the second ODI against England in Cardiff on 16 July. After this he was dropped from the third ODI played at Lord’s. According to the report, the Center of Excellence (COE) was working on gradually increasing Bumrah’s bowling workload so that he could be prepared for the Test series against Sri Lanka. However, he could not get fit on time. The COE is taking great care regarding his fitness and no definite date of return has been given.
Akash Deep’s fitness also became a concern
The fitness of Indian team’s fast bowler Akash Deep also remains a matter of concern. Due to a back injury, he has been away from cricket for about six months. Due to injury, he could not participate in IPL 2026 as well as in many subsequent bilateral series. Akash Deep last played for Bengal in Ranji Trophy in February. Since then he has not played any competitive match.
Preparation to be fit till New Zealand series
The aim of the COE was to make Akash Deep fully fit to play cricket till the Sri Lanka tour, but this could not happen. According to the report, till now the team management and selection committee have not been told any fixed deadline for his return. The next target of COE is to make him fit for the Test series against New Zealand. In such a situation, the injury of Bumrah and Akash Deep can become a big challenge for the fast bowling department of the Indian team.
