Parliament Monsoon Session

New Delhi. Thursday was the last day of the monsoon session of Parliament. Due to the deadlock between the government and the opposition on the issue of student protest, the proceedings of the House were affected by the uproar. The opposition did not accept the proposal for discussion by Home Minister Amit Shah. After this, the proceedings were adjourned sine die amid sloganeering in the Lok Sabha. On the last day of the session, discussion on Mineral and Mining (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 began in the Rajya Sabha. This bill was passed without discussion in the Lok Sabha a day earlier. Protests and sloganeering by opposition MPs also continued during the discussion in Rajya Sabha.

Discussion on Mineral and Mining Bill in Rajya Sabha

Consideration of the Minerals and Mining (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 was initiated in the Rajya Sabha. The process of discussion and passing the bill proceeded in the House. Opposition MPs raised slogans in the House regarding the bill and registered their protest. This bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday without detailed discussion.

Issue of alleged ‘purification’ raised in Haldwani

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of alleged ‘purification’ after the Congress rally at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani. He said that such a program was organized after the Congress President’s rally on August 8, which he linked to untouchability and demanded action. Kharge demanded registration of a case in this matter and alleged that BJP had a role in it. In response, House leader JP Nadda condemned the incident and said that the matter will be investigated. He also appealed to Congress not to sensationalize this issue.

Chairman said- there should be no such thing as untouchability

Rajya Sabha Chairman Radhakrishnan also reacted to the matter. He said that there should be no such thing as untouchability and called it a sin. The Chairman said that the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against those responsible. He said that in such cases it is necessary for the facts to come out and after investigation, appropriate action should be taken against those found guilty.

Lok Sabha adjourned indefinitely amid uproar

The proceedings of the Lok Sabha began with the singing of Vande Mataram. Many prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah were present in the House. However, sloganeering and uproar by opposition MPs continued during the proceedings. Amid the deadlock, the Lok Sabha Speaker adjourned the House sine die. With this the monsoon session of Parliament ended in the Lok Sabha.
