Former India fast-bowler Vinay Kumar was appointed as the new head coach of the Karnakata cricket team on Thursday.
Vinay, who has represented the country 41 times, will take over from Yere Goud heading into the new domestic season, which will start with the Duleep Trophy from August 23.
The 42-year-old walks into the job with significant prior coaching experience, having most recently been in charge of the Hubli Tigers in the Maharaja Trophy.
Vinay has also been the bowling coach of the MI Emirates in the ILT20 and a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
As for his credentials as a player, Vinay led Karnataka to a historic double-treble (Vijay Hazare, Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy) from 2013 to 2015, and is still the leading wicket-taker among seamers in the Ranji Trophy with 442 wickets.
Vinay has taken 49 wickets at the international level, and has also won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders (2014) and Mumbai Indians (2015, 2017).
Karnataka will begin its Ranji campaign against Andhra Pradesh on October 11.
