The Railway Police (GRP) in Jammu arrested Altaf Hussain Sheikh, an absconding accused in the 1991 Jammu railway station blast case, after 35 years, Jammu and Kashmir Police announced. Sheikh had initially gone underground and had lived under a concealed identity for decades.
Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmed Sheikh and a resident of Marhama-Bijbehara, Anantnag, was charged under the now-repealed Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA). He and other accomplices were allegedly involved in the bombing on April 2, 1991, at platform number 1 of Jammu railway station, which killed three people, including two paramilitary personnel, and injured 18 civilians.

Police stated that during the investigation, one accused, Aman Ullah Khan, was arrested, but three others escaped and were declared absconders by the court.
Over the past two years, the Railway Police intensified efforts to locate Sheikh, discovering him living under a false identity as a successful businessman in the Bijbehara area.
Following verification of his identity and residential details, Sheikh was apprehended and presented before the TADA Court on August 13 for further legal proceedings.
