Ganeshotsav Special Train : Maharashtra’s biggest and favorite festival i.e. Ganeshotsav is just a few days away. Like every year, this year also lakhs of chakarmanis from Mumbai, Thane and surrounding areas are preparing to go to their hometowns in Konkan for Bappa’s darshan. Considering the unprecedented rush of passengers and the traffic congestion on the highways during this period, the Indian Railways has given a big relief to the people of Konkan. Through the joint planning of Central, Western and Konkan Railways, an important decision has been taken to run more than 400 special train trips on the Konkan route this year.
Congestion control and train planning
This year, the railway administration has planned carefully to reduce the stress on regular trains during Ganeshotsav. According to the information given by Konkan Railway, these special trains will run from September 11 to September 27, 2026. In this, 246 rounds have been planned in coordination with Central Railway, while additional rounds have been planned through Western Railway. For the convenience of passengers, these will include reserved AC, sleeper class and unreserved (General) coaches. Interestingly, special MEMU trains are also going to be run between ‘Diwa to Khed/Chiplun’ for short distance commuters, which will greatly benefit local commuters. Ganeshotsav Special Train
Major routes and additional stops
These special trains will depart from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), as well as Pune and Ahmedabad. These trains will mainly run to Ratnagiri, Sawantwadi Road, Kudal, Khed and Madgaon stations. Many trains have also been given additional halts at smaller stations like Sape Wamane, Vinhere and Kadawai to make the journey of Chakarmanya more convenient. Apart from this, Konkan Railway has also introduced an innovative service ‘Car on Train’ to avoid potholes and traffic jams on the highway for those traveling by private vehicles.
