Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the full version of the national anthem 'Vande Mataram' was played for the first time from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
After the national anthem 'Vande Mataram', the national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was played. It is noteworthy that this year the Indian national song 'Vande Mataram' is completing 150 years.
21 gun salute, flowers showered from the sky
When Prime Minister Modi hoisted the Tricolor from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, a 21-gun salute was given by 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial) using indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns. After this, the tune of 'Vande Mataram' was played by the Army Band.
Meanwhile, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force showered flower petals on the Red Fort. One of these helicopters was hoisting the tricolor flag, while a flag with 'Vande Mataram' written on it was displayed on the other helicopter.

Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Modi said that this is the first time since independence that the full version of 'Vande Mataram' has been played at the Red Fort.
Given legal status equivalent to national anthem
Recently, the full version of 'Vande Mataram' has been given legal protection equivalent to that of the national anthem. It was also played at the beginning and end of President Draupadi Murmu's address to the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.
Insulting Vande Mataram is a crime
This historic change has come into effect after the 'Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Bill, 2026' got the assent of the President. Under the new law, willful obstruction or obstruction in the singing of 'Vande Mataram' can be punished with a fine, imprisonment up to three years or both.
