Jason Arday, who made history as the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge, has been found dead in London.
The late professor was found days after resigning amid an investigation into his academic qualifications.
As per BBCJason was found dead at an address in Battersea, London, on Friday, August 14.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious,” the spokesperson said.
“The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
On August 5, he announced he was leaving his position as Professor of Sociology at the university and his role at Jesus College with immediate effect.
His resignation followed Cambridge’s announcement of an investigation into his academic qualifications and honorary appointments.
Jason had faced allegations surrounding plagiarism and questions about his academic background, which he strongly disputed.
His appointment to Cambridge in 2023 attracted widespread attention. At 37, he became the youngest Black professor in the university’s centuries-old history.
