After this big announcement by the Prime Minister, there has been a wave of tremendous enthusiasm and happiness among sports lovers and youth across the country. This leap of India on the global sports map is the biggest proof of the country’s growing confidence and unprecedented development in the field of sports.

Mentioned the success of sports development schemes and ‘TOPS’

During his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke openly on the country’s sports culture and the performance of the athletes. He said that the flagship ‘Target Olympic Podium Scheme’ (TOPS) launched by the Government since 2014 has proved to be highly successful in providing world-class support to the country’s talented athletes. Today, India is making a strong and indelible place for itself on the sports platforms of the whole world. It is a proud moment for every Indian when the country’s national anthem resonates in international competitions and our national flag flutters proudly at the top.

Expansion of sports infrastructure and events across the country

The Prime Minister said that unprecedented work has been done in the last few years to strengthen the sports infrastructure in India. Be it ‘Khelo India Games’, University Games, Beach Games, Winter Games or the field of cutting-edge sports training, sports medicine and sports nutrition, today India is progressing rapidly on every front. The performance of Indian athletes is continuously improving at the international level. On the basis of this strong foundation, India stands at the forefront of the race to host the Olympics in 2036. Apart from this, the Prime Minister also announced that India is also preparing to host the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in the year 2030.

Nationwide talent search will be held for children aged 5 to 15 years

The Prime Minister shared a big strategy regarding the preparations for Mahakumbh like Olympics and India’s extensive participation in it. Expressing concern, he said that there are about 40 sports disciplines in the Olympic Games, in which about 350 events are organized in total, but it is a sad situation that we are not able to compete in at least two-thirds of these events because our players are not even able to qualify for it. To overcome this shortcoming, the government has firmly decided that by the 2036 Olympics we will have to register our presence in at least three-fourths of the events. With this objective, a massive ‘Countrywide Talent Hunt’ will be launched for children in the age group of 5 to 15 years to find talented children from every corner of the country, who will be given special and modern training to become world class athletes in future.
