'Give 1 crore and I will kill the CM'… Threat to Assam CM in live speech

In Assam's Morigaon district, police have arrested a person for allegedly issuing death threats to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media. This alleged threat was revealed on social media during the live telecast of the Chief Minister's Independence Day speech on Friday. The police have also detained three more people including the main accused's father, brother and another person. All the arrests and detentions were carried out overnight in Morigaon district.

The main accused arrested has been identified as Abdul Muttalib, who is a tailor by profession. Police investigated the mobile number appearing on social media with the alleged threat given to the Chief Minister. Investigation revealed that this number was registered in the name of Abdul Mutaleb. After this, the police proceeded with the investigation of the case and arrested Mutaleb.

1. The alleged threat came to light on social media during the live telecast of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's Independence Day speech. The Chief Minister had given the Independence Day speech from Khanapara in Guwahati on August 15.

2. According to the complaint, a person using the name 'Abdul Muttalib' on the social media platform Meta allegedly threatened to kill the Chief Minister. It is alleged that in a social media comment it was said that Rs 1 crore would be given for the murder of the Chief Minister.

3. It was also said in the alleged post that those who are ready to give this amount should contact him.

4. According to the police, along with comments against India, slogans like 'Pakistan Zindabad' were also written in support of Pakistan in the alleged comment. After the matter came to light, Bhuragaon police started investigating the information related to the social media account and the mobile number used in that post.

5. During the investigation, the police obtained information about the mobile number which was displayed with the alleged threat. According to the police, investigation revealed that the mobile number was registered in the name of Abdul Muttalib.

6. After this, the police reached Mutaleb and detained him and later arrested him. Apart from the main accused, the police have also detained his father, brother and another person.

7. All these arrests and detentions were carried out overnight in Morigaon district of Assam. At present, the police has taken action on the basis of investigation of the account, mobile number and other details related to the alleged threat that surfaced on social media.
