Lucknow. The Central Government has emphasized on new initiatives to increase the income of weavers working in villages and to take handloom products to the mass market. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said that the government's aim is that every weaver can earn an income of at least Rs 5 lakh annually.
Products will reach the country and the world through e-commerce
The government is working to connect weavers from different parts of the country with global markets through e-commerce platforms. With this, the handloom products manufactured in villages will be able to get new customers and the sales of weavers are expected to increase.
The Minister said that handloom is not just a means of making clothes, but it is linked to the art, culture and traditional heritage of India. Due to low carbon footprint, its possibilities are also increasing in the field of sustainable fashion and home decor.
Emphasis on new technology and design
New designs and techniques are being worked on to connect traditional weaving with the needs of the modern market. For this, collaboration is being done with institutions like IIT Delhi. The objective is to give international recognition to Indian handlooms and crafts.
The exhibition will run till 23rd August
'Weave the Future 5.0' exhibition has been organized at Handloom Haat, Delhi. More than 30 brands and 24 leading weavers from across the country are participating in it. Products made from natural fibers like wool, silk, bamboo, banana, hemp, pineapple and lotus are displayed here.
A combination of modern design with traditional weaving is being seen in the exhibition. This event will remain open for the general public till August 23. The government is trying to provide better markets and more income opportunities to village weavers through such events and digital markets.
