Sunday was recorded in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in the Darwin Test and registered its first Test win on their soil, thanks to the brilliant bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmood, thanks to the restrained performance of the openers. This was Bangladesh's third Test in Australia and its first Test played in the country after 23 years.
After Australia was bowled out for 284 runs in the second innings, Bangladesh got the target of only 57 runs to win. Mehdi Hasan Miraz played an important role in collapsing the Australian innings and took five wickets, while Hasan Mahmood took three wickets. Chasing the target, Bangladesh scored 57 runs after losing one wicket and won the match. Mominul Haq sealed the historic victory by scoring the winning runs. Mominul remained unbeaten on 30 and Shadman Islam scored 25 runs. Josh Hazlewood took one wicket for Australia.
Tanjid's century laid the foundation of victory
Bangladesh had scored 426 runs in the first innings. Tanjid Hasan Tamim scored his first Test century by playing a brilliant inning of 101 runs. Captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto scored 84 and Mehdi Hasan Miraj scored 65 runs. Australia's Josh Hazlewood took six wickets, but Bangladesh's strong batting put pressure on the hosts. In response, Australia's first innings was reduced to just 198 runs. Hasan Mahmood wreaked havoc and took six wickets, while Ibadat Hussain took two wickets. Steve Smith scored the highest 71 runs for Australia.
Australia did not save despite Green's century
After trailing by 228 runs, Cameron Green scored a struggling 104 runs in Australia's second innings. Steve Smith contributed 44 runs, but Bangladesh bowlers maintained constant pressure. Mehdi Hasan Miraj bowled brilliantly with 5/56 and Hasan Mahmood 3/66, reducing Australia's innings to 284 runs. After this, Bangladesh had a target of only 57 runs, which they achieved easily.
Bangladesh's second big win over Australia
Bangladesh had earlier defeated Australia in a Test at home nine years ago, but this victory on Australian soil is much more historic. The special thing is that Bangladesh kept Australia, considered the world's number one Test team, under complete pressure throughout the match. It also symbolizes Bangladesh's great comeback this year. The Bangladesh team, which did not participate in the T20 World Cup due to political reasons, has performed consistently since March and has now added a new chapter to its cricket journey by registering a historic Test win on Australian soil. Bangladeshi fans at the almost empty Marara Oval in Darwin celebrated after the win. The whole day turned into a celebration for the players and support staff.
