Tezzbuzz Desk- Congress has cornered the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the decision to cancel the question papers of three subjects of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination and conduct the examination again. Congress has raised the question why irregularities in the question papers were discovered almost two months after the examination and why students are having to pay the price for it.
NTA has decided to re-conduct the examination of these subjects after finding serious errors in the question papers of English, Commerce and Sociology. The examinations for these subjects were conducted in June. Now the English and Commerce exam will be held on 9th September, while the Sociology exam will be held on 10th September.
Rahul Gandhi targeted the government
Congress MP and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NTA over this matter. He said that the exams for three subjects were canceled almost two months after the UGC-NET exams were held in June. According to Rahul Gandhi, NTA set wrong papers and repeated the questions already asked. He said thousands of candidates spent years preparing for the exam, paying fees and traveling to reach the exam centres. Now they will have to complete the same process again.
Rahul Gandhi raised the question that it is NTA's fault, but why students have to bear the loss. He also asked whether question papers were leaked before the exam and why NTA was not answering this question. He said that the resignation of the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the first step towards accountability, not the last. Rahul also demanded fixing the accountability of the leadership of NTA.
Jairam Ramesh asked many questions
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also sought answers from the government regarding the delay and irregularities in the examination. He questioned why it took almost two months to detect such serious mistakes in the question papers. Jairam Ramesh said that this delay may also affect those students who want to participate in the admission process in various universities this year. He asked who would compensate the students for their loss if they do not get admission on time.
According to the Congress leader, the NTA committee found many mistakes in the question papers. These include misspellings of names of prominent scholars, errors in book titles, mistakes in the language of questions and gender-related errors. Apart from this, many such questions were also found which had been asked in the previous examinations.
'How was the paper with such serious mistakes accepted?'
Congress said that the question is not only about re-conducting the examination. The real question is how such serious mistakes were made in the question papers of the national level examination and at what level they were approved. Jairam Ramesh said that an examination like UGC-NET is related to the career of lakhs of youth. In such a situation, responsibility for negligence in the examination system should be fixed. He asked why students should have to suffer the punishment for NTA's mistake.
He also raised the question as to why the results of the candidates who had appeared for the examination in 84 other subjects were being delayed. Congress has demanded the government to ensure transparency and accountability in the entire examination process.
There will be re-examination in September
According to the schedule of NTA, the examination for English and Commerce subjects of UGC-NET will be held on September 9. Whereas the Sociology exam will be held on 10th September.
Now after the decision to conduct the examination again, the students are faced with the challenge of new preparation and examination schedule. Congress says that the negligence of the examination agency should not affect the future of the students and accountability of the responsible officials should be fixed.
