Journey from jail to hospital: Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's health deteriorated, Supreme Court ordered immediate shift

Jailed former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has received a big and important relief from the Supreme Court of the country. Taking cognizance of 73-year-old Khan's deteriorating health condition and serious vision problems, the court has ordered him to be admitted to a private hospital with immediate effect. This decision has not only given solace to his family but has also infused new energy among his party workers. Giving instructions, PTI spokesperson Naeem Haider Panjutha said that the Supreme Court has given strict instructions to the administrative authorities that Imran Khan should be admitted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within the next 48 hours. As per the court order, Imran Khan will remain under special observation of doctors in this hospital till at least 16 September. Eyesight has become a matter of serious concern. Concerns were being raised for a long time about the health of Imran Khan, who is in jail since August 2023. His lawyers and family members say that due to lack of adequate treatment in jail, the vision in his right eye has become very weak. PTI spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari welcomed the court's decision and said that if the order had come in time, his health would not have been harmed so much. He has demanded that he should not be sent back to jail until the doctors are completely satisfied. Center of legal and political battle Since being ousted from power through a no-confidence motion in the year 2022, Imran Khan has been embroiled in dozens of legal cases, which include big cases like Toshakhana and corruption. However, in many cases he has got relief from the courts. The way Imran's supporters demonstrated despite their party's election symbol being snatched away in the 2024 general elections, it has further strengthened his hold in Pakistani politics. At present, this decision of the Supreme Court is being seen as a big political victory for his supporters.
