An amazing sight was seen on the fourth day (18 August) of the first Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Galle. Team India's star opener KL Rahul was returning to the pavilion after being given out on LBW appeal, when Devdutt Padikkal standing at the other end called out and asked Rahul to take a review. Rahul listened to his Karnataka teammate and asked for a review, which showed that the ball had gone over the stumps and Rahul was saved.
This incident happened in the 11th over of India's second innings. Rahul had hit a six on the fifth ball of this over. Sri Lankan spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya made a strong comeback on the next ball and beat Rahul on the arm ball. The ball hit Rahul's rear thigh pad. The Sri Lankan players made a strong appeal for LBW and the umpire immediately raised his finger. Rahul was in no mood to take the review but Padikkal called him back and convinced him to take the review.
Rahul asked for review. Replays to the TV umpire showed that the ultra-edge showed that there was no contact between the ball and the bat. Rahul looked to be out as the ball seemed to go straight to the stumps but the ball tracker showed that the ball would have gone over the stumps. The field umpire had to change his decision. After this Rahul hugged Padikkal. At this time Rahul was on a personal score of 25 runs. However, after narrowly escaping being out, he could not stay at the crease for long. Rahul could add only 10 runs in his innings. It was Jayasuriya who made him move.
