Big decision of NHAI, digital Fastag local pass facility at 121 toll plazas!

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the online FASTag Local Pass facility at 121 toll plazas across the country and will be implemented in more toll plazas across the country in the coming months. This information was given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday.

The ministry said that persons traveling through the online local pass system can book monthly local passes online through the Highway Yatra mobile app, thereby eliminating the need to visit toll plazas and submit necessary documents.

The initiative aims to make National Highway travel accessible and people-centric by using technology to increase transparency and efficiency in toll processes. The first digital local pass was launched in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza located on Urban Extension Road-II, Delhi.

Under the Digital Local Pass Scheme, people living within a radius of 20 kilometers of a toll plaza can apply for a local pass through the Highway Yatra mobile app. As per the applicable provisions of this pass, eligible passengers will get the facility to travel unlimitedly from the respective toll plaza in a month.

Earlier, for the local pass, passengers had to personally visit the respective toll plaza and submit documents to verify the residential address within a radius of 20 km and other eligibility requirements. National Highway users can check the list of toll plazas by visiting the official website.

The ministry said the Digital Local Pass facility is based on consent-based integration with government digital platforms, including DigiLocker and Vahan, to capture and verify information such as the passenger's residential address, vehicle details and linked Fastag.

Eligibility is also verified through the Geographic Information System, which determines whether the applicant's registered address is within a 20 km radius of an eligible toll plaza.
