New Delhi: There was a big focus on the agriculture sector in the UP-Japan Investment Meet-2026, organized to give a new direction to investment, technology and industrial cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan called for taking the benefits of Japanese technology and expertise directly to Indian farmers.
He said that India-Japan partnership should not be limited to investment only. Its direct benefits should reach farmers, youth and rural economy. Describing Uttar Pradesh as a strong destination for global investment including Japanese companies, he stressed on increasing technical cooperation in the agriculture sector.
Easy and useful machines made for small farmers
Shivraj Singh Chouhan appealed to Japanese industries and institutions to develop such technology and agricultural machinery which even small and marginal farmers can easily use.
He said that India has a huge market, large youth population and vast potential in the agriculture sector. By combining Japan's technical expertise and India's needs, new opportunities can be created in the agriculture sector.
According to the Agriculture Minister, today there is a need for such technology which will reduce water consumption and production cost along with increasing the productivity of farmers and ultimately help in increasing the income of farmers.
Research should reach the fields, not be limited to papers only.
The Union Minister also stressed on the practical use of agricultural research. He said that the benefits of research done in agriculture sector should reach directly to the farms.
According to him, research should not be limited to papers only, but should be converted into products and technologies that farmers can easily adopt and which can make their farming more productive and less expensive.
UP becomes strong investment destination for Japan
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a strong destination for global investment due to its large consumer market, skilled human resources, better connectivity, rapidly developing infrastructure and investment-friendly policies.
He described Japan as a special and important partner of Uttar Pradesh. Also said that the recent visit of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Japan has further strengthened the relations between the two sides.
He said that if Uttar Pradesh's strength, tradition, talent, infrastructure, investment potential, innovation and huge market are combined with the technological expertise of Japan, new opportunities for employment, innovation and sustainable growth can be created.
New employment opportunities for village youth
The Union Minister also laid special emphasis on connecting rural youth with agricultural technology. He said that operation, maintenance and related business of modern agricultural machinery and technology can open new avenues of employment and entrepreneurship for the village youth.
With this, rural youth can become active participants and not just spectators of the development journey.
He also called upon Japan to cooperate in making India a global center in the field of agricultural technology. According to him, with better coordination between agriculture and manufacturing, new technology and machinery can be developed as per the needs of the farmers.
Partnership of technology and employment goes beyond investment
Shivraj Singh Chouhan did not limit India-Japan relations to just investment relations between two countries and called it a partnership of two cultures.
He said that India's spiritual and cultural strength and Japan's technical proficiency and industrial capacity together can create a new path of development. Technology, innovation, skill development, manufacturing and employment should also get an important place in the cooperation between the two countries.
More than 200 Japanese representatives are taking part
UP-Japan Investment Meet-2026 organized It is being conducted in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi from 18th to 23rd August. More than 200 Japanese industrialists, CEOs, business representatives and policy-makers are participating in it.
The conference is presenting investment opportunities for Japanese companies in areas such as advanced technology, green hydrogen, renewable energy, electric mobility, semiconductors, automotive components, digital infrastructure, skills development and tourism.
