TNCJP claims to be inspired by the broader online Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) movement but describes itself as a separate organization. This movement came into discussion among the youth through social media and demonstrations. In this movement the cockroach was used as a symbol of struggle and protest. In Tamil Nadu too, this name has been used in some local protests on employment and examination related issues.
