Cabinet Decision: The Union Cabinet has approved four multi-tracking projects to expand the Indian Railways network and facilitate rail transport. These projects will cost approximately Rs 9,450 crore and will cover eight districts in West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. This will add an additional capacity of approximately 410 km to the rail network. The government aims to complete all these railway projects by 2030-31.

A project to build a four-lane highway between Muzaffarpur and Sonbarsa in Bihar via Sitamarhi has also been approved. The project will cost approximately Rs 3,591 crore. The road is expected to improve road connectivity between many parts of North Bihar. According to the government, these projects aim to increase rail and road transport capacity, reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity for the public.

9,450 crore spent on four railway projects

Four railway projects in different parts of the country have been approved by the Cabinet Railway The web will be stronger. This includes laying of new railway lines and multi-tracking of existing railway lines.

  • Kharagpur Bhadrak Ranital 4th Railway Line: This project will cost approximately ₹3,352 crore.
  • Bhadrak Haridaspur 4th Railway Line: An estimated ₹1,583 crore has been sanctioned for this
  • Gummidipundi Gudur 3rd and 4th Railway Line: This project will cost approximately ₹2,229 crore.
  • Cuttack Paradip 3rd and 4th Railway Line: This railway project will cost approximately ₹2,286 crore.

These four projects will benefit eight districts in West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Availability of more railway lines will increase railway capacity and help reduce congestion on busy railway lines.

A 4-lane highway will be constructed in Bihar

The Cabinet has also approved a 4-lane highway project between Muzaffarpur and Sonbarsa in Bihar via Sitamarhi. An estimated ₹3,591 crore will be spent on this project.

This highway will help improve road connectivity between major parts of Bihar. The improved connectivity is expected to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods, as well as boost business and economic activities in the region.

Increase in railway capacity by 410 km
